Miscellaneous papers including the Civil War diary of Samuel Hoey Walkup, colonel of the 48th North Carolina Infantry Regiment, C.S.A., while stationed in Virginia and eastern North Carolina; and letters written home from the front. The diary describes the formation of the 48th North Carolina Regiment and its participation in the Peninsula Campaign, the battles of Bull Run, Antietam, and Fredericksburg, and the siege of Petersburg.
